From the "Sleeping Beauties" to Les Maisons du Bonheur:
A story of restoration and family life
In 1995, Daniéla and Christophe Liger-Belair embarked on an ambitious and deeply personal journey: bringing their family’s abandoned homes back to life after decades of neglect. These old stone houses, affectionately known as the “Sleeping Beauties”, held the history and legacy of a winemaking family spanning eight generations.
At the time, only the vineyard remained active. Christophe continued tending the vines and caring for the historic wine cellars, while the former winegrowers’ houses stood quietly, waiting for a new chapter to begin.
Daniéla was the first to see beyond the weathered stone walls. With a passion for architecture and interior design, she imagined the potential hidden within every wooden beam, every roof tile and every aged doorway. Guided by a clear vision, she began restoring the houses one by one, determined to breathe new life into this forgotten hamlet.
What followed was an extraordinary family adventure. While managing the restoration works, Daniéla and Christophe raised their two daughters, Ségolène and Juliette, surrounded by building sites, dust and, more often than not, a concrete mixer sitting in the middle of the living room. Each restored house became another chapter in their family’s story.
As the years passed, the buildings gradually came back to life. What had once been abandoned ruins became a vibrant family estate, shaped by twenty years of hard work, perseverance and shared dreams.
Three decades of passion and transformation:
From winemaking to the art of hospitality
Over the years, the estate has evolved with the same patience and dedication that vineyard life demands.
The former winegrowers’ houses have been transformed into charming guest accommodation, while the historic cellars and wineries—once devoted exclusively to winemaking—have become welcoming spaces for celebrations, meetings and shared experiences.
Little by little, the estate embraced a new purpose. Weddings, corporate retreats, wine experiences and family celebrations now bring new life to these historic buildings.
Once devoted solely to the vineyard, the estate has become a place where people come together to celebrate, reconnect and create lasting memories, while its winemaking heritage remains at the heart of everything we do.
A mother-and-daughter story:
A family legacy continues
Today, Les Maisons du Bonheur remains, above all, a family story.
Daniéla continues to welcome every guest with warmth, kindness and genuine care. Her youngest daughter, Juliette, now leads the development and growth of the estate, carrying forward the vision that began more than thirty years ago.
Together, they preserve the values that have always defined the estate: authenticity, simplicity and the joy of welcoming others.
From the “Sleeping Beauties” to Les Maisons du Bonheur, this is a story of passion, patience and family heritage. A story that continues to unfold every day, honouring the past while creating a place where people from around the world can gather, celebrate and make unforgettable memories.
